Mrs. Howerton was born February 4, 1921, in Noodle, Texas. She and Doil Howerton met when he was serving in the U.S. Army at Camp Barkley. They married on April 14, 1944, and were happily married for 56 years, until his death in 2001. Doil and Radie lived briefly in San Francisco, then moved to Abilene where they made their home. They lived at 1474 Lillis where they raised their six precious children. She was a homemaker, gardener, and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved family and was always a defender of the under-dog. She lived a life of service to her family and to her Lord, who she loved.
Survivors include three sons, Eddie Doil Howerton and wife Sharlene, Robert Michael Howerton and wife, Gail, & John Franklin Howerton and wife, Linda; three daughters, Pamela Ann Howerton Rutledge and husband Gary, Beverly Susan Howerton Hestand and husband Buster, & Elizabeth Jo Howerton Swansey; 13 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a special sister-in-law, Josey Tarpley of Hawley.
Mrs. Howerton was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, Steven Duane Howerton; her parents, William Boyd Tarpley and Octava Hudson Tarpley; three brothers, Glyn, Jack, and Billy Boyd Tarpley; two sisters, Ruby Jo Tarpley Sutton and Wanee "Pug" Tarpley Aaburg.
