LAWRENCE ALTON "BIG L" MATTINGLY, 58, Loretto, died at 7:25 p.m. March 18, 2005, at Norton Hospital, Louisville. Born Feb. 1, 1947, in Marion County, Mattingly was an employee of American Fuji Seal in Bardstown. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Francis Sylvester and Mary Bessie Mattingly; and three infant siblings, Catherine Gertrude, Joseph Hubert and Joseph Alvin Mattingly. Survivors include: his wife, Cheryl Ann Masterson Mattingly; a daughter, Stacy Ann Mattingly of Loretto; a sister, Grace Smith of Bardstown; a brother, Elmer Mattingly of Loretto; and a granddaughter. A funeral Mass was held March 22 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in New Hope with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. James W. Graf officiated and Rev. Deacon Eddie Hutchins assisted. Pallbearers were Pat Mattingly, Tommy Smith, Robbie Ralston, Jerry, Joe, Tucker and Chad Masterson and David Benningfield. Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto, was in charge of the arrangements.
