The wedding gown of Susan Westmoreland Hardin 1874 won awards in both the 1914 Indep. Fair and the Santa-Cali-Gone celebration of 1947.
It was given as a gift of granddaughter Suzanne Palmer in memory of her mother Ardelia Hardin. Mrs. W.C.C. Palmer to the Jackson Co. Historical Soc. along with a purse and hankerchief w/mirror. The wedding suit was purple wool material purchased at Bullene, Moore and Emerys Store, Kansas City, Mo., later known as Emery Bird Thayers. Presented June 5, 1971. The suit is ornamented with tucks and flounces. Buttons bear flower resembling tulip. Handmade. Stays, ribbons, and lace found in purse which came with gown are placed with the gown. The purse is a drawstring bag of purple satin covered with fringed crocheted piece in same color. Black satin hankerchief edged with black lace and lined with pink satin to which is attached a small round mirror.
