Adelaide Parkes Mott, 78, of West Brandywine, formerly of Downingtown, died on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at the Inn at Freedom Village.

Adelaide was born in Morristown, N.J.

She graduated from the Moravian Seminary for Girls in Bethlehem in 1949 and Hood College in Frederick, Md., with a bachelor's degree in music in 1953.

Adelaide was a music teacher from 1954 to 1957 in Centerville, Md. After moving to Pennsylvania, she was employed as a school bus driver for the Chester County IU and Krapf Bus Co. for more than 40 years, retiring in 2008. She was also employed at the IU as an aide in the swimming pool for a number of years and was a past president of the CCIU #24 Educational Support Association of the PSEA.

Adelaide was a very active member of the Thorndale United Methodist Church. She was choir director there for 38 years and contributed to the ministry of music not only as choir director but also by forming small vocal ensembles and a praise band.

She moved into Freedom Village at Brandywine in 2004 and became active with their musical group, the Village Singers, as well.

One thing that mom was specifically proud of because of the meaning of the accomplishment was being elected to wear the white blazer her senior year at Hood College. This represented athletic achievement as well as sportsmanship and devotion to Hood College. Because of this, she was a member of the inaugural class of Hood College's Athletic Hall of Fame. One of the pictures is of her receiving that award.

Adelaide was loved deeply and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her sister, Martha Kimmich of Berkeley, Calif.; her children, Mary Louise Hawthorne of Troy, Pa., John Mott of Great Barrington, Mass., and Martha Majewski of Phoenixville; and three grandchildren, James, Jennifer and Amy Hawthorne.

She was predeceased by her husband, John.
