Indian Campaigns Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the US Army at St Louis, Missouri. He served as a Private in Company A, 5th US Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for action during October 21, 1876 and January 8, 1877 at Cedar Creek,etc, Montana. His citation reads "Bravery in action with Sioux". He is buried under the name Charles Shepherd.
