Mildred Mathias, 87, formerly of Nekoosa, Wis., passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, at GNP Country Estates in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

Millie was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Van Buren, to Curtis and Bessie (Bumgartner) Coppes. She married Paul Mathias June 28, 1941, in Bowling Green. He preceded her in death July 9, 2005.

Millie took great pride and was a very active member in her church. She loved music and sang in the church choir. Her interests included sewing, cooking and family reunions.

After moving to Nekoosa, she

was a kitchen helper at Nekoosa High School.

She is survived by seven children, Jerry (Phyllis) Mathias of Mt. Gilead, Kathleen (James) Barger of Findlay, Paul "Jim" Mathias of Nekoosa, Wis., Margaret (Edwin) Anderson of New Brighton, Minn., Deborah (Richard) Huntley of Bow, N.H., Nancy (Jerry) Mancl of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and Cynthia Cattermole of Nekoosa, Wis.; a daughter-in-law, Angelica Mathias of Zimmerman, Minn.; 29 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Gregory; one daughter-in-law, Maralyn Mathias; two brothers, Donald and Harry Coppes; one sister, Marjorie King; and one grandson, Elliot Mancl.
