Jonathan Shirley Clark, 85, of Logan, died Tuesday, April 17, 1990 at Logan Regional Hospital of causes incident to age.


He was born June 7, 1904 in Colonia, Dublan, Mexico, the son of Arthur B. and Ethel Shirley Clark.


He lived most of his life in Cache Valley and was well known for his love of music. His family orchestra and quartet performed extensively throughout the intermountain region. Prior to his retirement he worked with young people for years as a head custodian at Logan High School.


In 1928, he married Florence Rassmussen of Salt Lake City in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their children are Florene and Hollis Smith, Salt Lake City; Weldon and Audrey Clark, Salt Lake City; Justin and Maureen Clark, Salt Lake City; Marjorie and Gary Ridgeway, Sandy, Utah; Marlene and Glenn Eames, Ogden; Gary and Judy Clark, Salt Lake City; Jean and Jack Lambson, Salt Lake City. They were later divorced.


He then married Elna Ruth Young of Logan. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Their children are Bonnie and Marlin Peck, Layton; Elna Ruthe and Joel Norton, Provo; John and Tami Clark, Washington, D.C.; Jerel and Jolyn Clark, Smithfield; James and Jenette Clark, Harrisville, Utah; Merrilynn and Robert Walsh, Port Orchard, Washington; Jay and Lynda Clark, Logan.


After Ruth's death in March of 1968, he married Marie Johnson Rogers. Her children, who were grown at the time of the marriage, are Linda and Grant Chadwick, Lewiston; Craig and Betsy Rogers, Salt Lake City; Sid and Marlene Rogers, Magna; Richard Rogers, West Valley City; Nephi and Shelly Rogers, Preston, Idaho.


Shirley was a life-long member of the LDS Church and at the time of his death was a High Priest in the Logan First Ward.


He is survived by his wife, Marie Johnson Rogers Clark, of Logan; fourteen children; five step-children; one-hundred-thirty grandchildren; eighty-eight great-grandchildren; brother, Clayton and Helen Clark, Logan; sisters, florence Deline, Salt Lake City; Rosa Croshaw, Logan; Bertha and Bert Byington, Ririe, Idaho; Grace and Clifford Crawford, Clearfield, Utah.


Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 1990 at 12:00 p.m. in the Logan First Ward Chapel, 95 South 200 West, with Bishop Jay Schvanveldt conducting. Friends may call on Friday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, and Saturday at the Church from 10:00-11:30 a.m.
Burial: Logan City Cemetery.
