Younger sister of the poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson and the fiancée of Arthur Henry Hallam, for whom Tennyson's great poem, "In Memoriam A.H.H.", was written. Emilia met Hallam through her brother, but they were never to marry, as he died suddenly while traveling abroad in 1833. She later married Lieutenant, later Captain, Richard Jesse of the Royal Navy, and their eldest son was given the forenames Arthur Henry Hallam. She is featured as a character in the story "Conjugal Angel" by A S Byatt in the book "Angels and Insects".
