Hannah, daughter of John and Mary Canutt was born August 16th, 1825 in Wayne county, Indiana, near Centerville and departed this life at her home in Rushville, March 17th, 1910, aged 84 years, 7 months and 1 day.
Her early girlhood was spent in Wayne county where she grew to womanhood and in the year 1842, she was united in marriage to Franklin Caldwell. To this union was born 7 children of whom Mrs Mary Fohl and Mrs Elizabeth Githens, her daughters and Jefferson and James Caldwell, her sons, survive their mother.
In 1875, death called the husband of her youth and on March 5th, 1884, she and George Washington Newhouse were united in marriage. For 26 years "Aunt Hannah" and "Uncle George," as they were familiarly called by their friends and neighbors have lived together. They grew old together as companions and each showed a deep and affectionate concern always for the comfort and welfare of the other.
Early in her life, she united with the Christian church, for many years her physical infirmities have not permitted her to enjoy attendance at divine service but she remained a devoted member until the day of her death.
