Walter was fourth of six children born to Lewis 'Buck' and Mary L. 'Mollie' (Reed) Boatright. He married Sarah 'Sallie' Cannon in 1903 and they had five children: Edrie H., Homer Robert, Herman, Louise and Gene C.

Walter Boatright, 59, well-known carpenter and contractor who had been critically ill for a few months, due to cancer, died at 2;30 today at the family residence, 715 South McKinley avenue. His funeral will be held there Sunday at 3 p.m., the Rev. S. H. Frazier, Baptist minister, officiating. Mr. Boatright was a member the First Baptist church. As a life-long carpenter and contractor, he had worked at one time or another on nearly all of the public buildings in Harrisburg. he was a carpenter on the court house, the original high school building, and the First Methodist church. He was born and reared in Harrisburg, the son of Lewis (Buck) and Mollie Boatright. His only sister, Mrs. J. W. Gillespie resides in Indianapolis and his only brother, John Boatright, resides in East St. Louis. He married Miss Sallie Cannon 36 years and she and their five children, Mrs. R. E. (Edra) Harris, San Diego, California, and Homer, Herman Louise and gene Boatright, survive. The sons are also contractors and were in business with their father. There are two grandchildren, Bobby and Frederick Harris, of San Diego. Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Gillespie have been here for some time, helping Mrs. Boatright to care for Mr. Boatright during his severe illness. he was in an Evansville hospital for several weeks and had undergone surgery, but was told early during his illness that it might prove fatal. Mr. Boatright belonged to the Masonic order and the ring funeral ceremony of the Mississippi Valley Consistory will be conducted by Frank Chamness, representing the Consistory and Ainad Temple of East St. Louis. Burial will be Sunset Lawn cemetery.
