Randolph D. Godsil 1947-2009

DAHINDA - Randolph D. "Randy" Godsil, 62, Oak Run, Dahinda, formerly of Knoxville, died at 1:23 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 26, 2009) at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

He was born May 10, 1947, in Galesburg, the son of Raymond Dean "Swanee" and Elizabeth Catherine Essex Godsil. He married Barbara J. Gronewold in July 1995 in Freeport. She survives in Oak Run, Dahinda.

Also surviving are sons, Russell Darrin Godsil of Jacksonville, Fla., (son of Rebecca E. Uhlman), and Roger Duane Godsil of Galesburg (son of Rebecca E. Uhlman; stepson, Michael D. (Clarissa) Thompson of Largo, Fla.; four grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren; sisters Roselie (Joe) Burgess, Knoxville, Rebecca (David) Ruetz, Sycamore, Rhonda (Steve) Sanford-Murmann, Monmouth, and Renee (Mark) Tadie Alexis; brothers, Dr. Raymond (Judy) Godsil Jr., Auburn, Ala., Richard (Marcia) Godsil Gardner, Kan., and Robin (Sharon) Godsil, Monmouth; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rodney "Hot Rod" Godsil.

He was raised and educated in Knoxville, graduating from Knoxville High School in 1965. He served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War as a pending missile crewman.

He worked at the former Gale Products in Galesburg as a punch press operator; at Burlington Northern Railroad from 1971 to 1986 as an engineer; owned and operated Godsil Insurance Agency for 28 years; sold real estate for Cooley II Real Estate Agency; and was a bus driver for Knoxville Community Unit School District 202 in Knoxville.

He was a member of Knoxville United Methodist Church; Pacific Masonic Lodge 66, AF&AM of Knoxville for 31 years; Harry Philblad American Legion Post 749 of Knoxville for 41 years and served as commander from 1988 to 1989; Mohammed Shriners of North America Lodge 8032 of Bartonville; and was a past member of the Knoxville Fire Department.

He was an avid Illini, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Bulls fan. He enjoyed cooking at the fire department, church, and American Legion. He treasured his family and friends.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, with Kevin Godsil officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at the funeral home in Knoxville. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, with military rites by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 of Galesburg.
