Colan O' Dell Allred, 69, of Winters Texas, died December 30, 2009, at Senior Citizens Retirement Home. Graveside services will be held in Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene at 1 p.m. Monday with full military honors.
Mr. Allred was born on April 23, 1940 in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. He was the son of Luther Jacob Allred and Ethel Inoa Bowlin Allred.
He was a retired Staff Sergeant (E6), who faithfully and honorably served in the United States Army. After his retirement from the Army, he went to work at Louisiana State Penitentiary where he met and married his wife Betty Chandler Allred, who was a Correctional Officer.
Mr. Allred was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, O.C., Hilton, Morris, Tommy, Alford, and Luther Jr.; three sisters, Christine Freeman, Marie Tuttle and Alice Bishop; one unnamed child; and one stepson, Brian M. Chenoweth.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Winters; one very special daughter, Christine LaCour of Moreauville, Louisiana; two daughters, Kimberly Rose and Sandra Laird of Minnesota; two sons, Colan O'Dell Allred,Jr., of Minnesota, Tobin J. Allred; one step-son, Larry D. Walden of Joshua, Texas; one step-daughter, Wendy D. Bateman of Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren; on great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
