August Gierke of Town Schleswig Dies on Saturday
Kiel, Wis. – (Special) – August Gierke, 66, died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at his home in the town of Schleswig after a lingering illness. He was born June 10, 1872, in Germany and at the age of 16 years he came to America and settled at Sheboygan.

In 1892 he married Mary Wilke of the town of Schleswig and the couple located in the town of Schleswig where they made their home since that time.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Helmuth, of town Eaton, Walter at home, and Carl of Manchester, Ind.; three daughters, Mrs. Richard Draheim of town Eaton, Mrs. Helmuth Drake of town Schleswig, and Hildegarde at home; 11 grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Otto Runge of Sheboygan. A son, Otto, preceded him in death 21 years ago.

Gierke, August Gottfried (June 10, 1872-Nov. 12, 1938 –husband of Mary Wilke [married April 25, 1896 at the Bethlehem Reformed Church in Town of Schleswig] –son of Carl Gierke and Friedricka Hinzmann –born in Kutzrow, Germany –immigrated to the US in 1888 and settled in Sheboygan –farmer in Town of Schleswig –on June 30, 1897 purchased from his in-laws Gottfried and Wilhelmina Wilke the 117 acre farm centered at 9917 Glen Flora Road in Section 2, Town of Schleswig –on May 13, 1929 sold this now 157 acre farm to his son Walter Gierke –from Oct. 31, 1917 to May 1, 1918 lived in the former William Dedering house that at one time existed on the south side of Townline Road in the Community of Steinthal in Section 33, Town of Eaton) –buried at Bethlehem Reformed Church Cemetery, Town of Schleswig [marriage record Manitowoc 6-392]
