Major Edward P. Myers Reported Killed in Action in European War Theater
Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Myers of near North Liberty have been informed by the war department that their son, Major Edward Payson Myers, 26, of the army air corps, was killed in action in the defense of his country in the western European was theater on December 30.
From the war department the following wire was sent to the North Liberty youth's parents: "The secretary of war desires me to express his deep regret that your son, Major Edward P. Myers, was killed in action in defense of his country in the western European area December 30. (Signed) Adjutant General."
A graduate of University high and of the University of Iowa in 1938 with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering. Major Myers was also graduated from the air corps training center at Randolph and Kelly fields in 1939.
Major Myers was born in Madison township September 7, 1916, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Myers.
Surviving are his parents and widow, the former Petriva Chalfronte Jackson, whom he married at McDill Field, Fla., March 18, 1942, now living in Clearwater, Fla., two brothers, Richard E., St. Paul, Minn., and Clifford O. of Portland, Ore.
Young Myers went to England last September where he received an air medal for leading the bomber squadron in a raid on Lille, France early in December.
His death marks the eighth man from Johnson county listed as either killed or missing.

Gravesite Details

Ashes of his wife Achsah Petriva Jackson Myers were scattered over his grave about 1998.
