Died at Pickensville S.C. on the 29th Dec 1849, Mrs. Dorcas Barton, in the 88th year
of her age. The deceased was a native of Virginia, but moved to this state with
her husband. Mr. Benjamin Franklin Barton about 1783. Her husband did good
service for his country in it struggle for independence~~he took a part in the affair
at Cowpens, where the British were so signally defeated. Mrs, Barton was
remarkable for the inffabilty of her manners and the strength of her
understanding, Her last illness was of several months's duration and of a very
painful character. In death she was peaceful, calm and resigned.
For althou she never united herself to any branch of the church, yet the
christen's hope soothed and sustained her in passing though the valley and
shadow of death.
