"Nellie L. Hoffman, 82, Mandan, died Dec. 28, 2006, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant assisted by Deacon Bob Olson. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. There will be no visitation on Tuesday at the church.

Nellie was born Dec. 28, 1924, in rural Center, the daughter of Ernest P. and Sarah Nagel. She attended high school in Mandan. She married John P. Hoffman on Oct. 18, 1943, in St. Anthony. They farmed for six years before moving to Mandan. John died on Jan. 1, 1992.

Family was everything to Nellie. She was a wonderful wife and mother to her five children. The best of all of the children came from Nellie and John. She treasured camping with her husband, children and grandchildren. Many reaped the benefits of her cooking, gardening and canning as well as her quilting and crocheting. Meatballs and German dishes were some of her specialties and she made phenomenal buns and donuts. Reading was also one of her favorite pastimes. Determined to remain independent, Nellie got her drivers license around the age of 70.

Nellie's generosity and sense of humor will be missed by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Doris (Martin) Erhardt, Livingston, Mont., Jane (Dale) Voigt, Stanwood, Wash., and Margaret (Dan) Feist, Mandan; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael (Jeanette), Bismarck, and John P. (Tracy), St. Francis, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel Dresser and Audrey Hampton; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; four sisters, Lily Walker, Ruth Lein, Ruby Anderson and Elsie Nagel; and four brothers, Kenneth, Bob, Roy and Raymond Nagel.
