Married Dorothy Elizabeth Cunningham February 9, 1927 in Schuyler County, Missouri.

Eugene was a respected and prominent businessman in Downing, Missouri as well as a successful farmer. He became the manager of the Farmers Cooperative at age 22 and served in that capacity for 25 years, then opened a farm implement business selling Minneapolis Moline equipment.

In 1955 he was elected to the Missouri State Legislature for two terms and in 1964 was elected the the presiding judge of the Schuyler County court for three terms.

Obituary--
Eugene Poe, 82 of Downing, died at 11:01 Friday morning, November 1, 1985, in Grim Smith Hospital where he had been a patient several days. The son of Otis Edgar and Ina Myrtle Reed Poe, he was born in Scotland County on January 30, 1903. On February 9, 1927, at Lancaster, he married Dorothy Elizabeth Cunningham who preceded him in death in October 1979. Also preceding were two sisters, Mary and Faye and three brothers, Isaac, Forest and Edwin. Surviving are two sons, Robert E. Poe and Bill E. Poe, both of Downing; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Poe spent his entire married life in the Downing community. During his earlier years, he taught school in Schuyler county. Later he was manager of Downing MFA Exchange for twenty-five years. He then owned a farm implement business in Downing and was also engaged in farming. For twelve years, Mr. Poe served as representative of Schuyler County in the Missouri Legislature. Later he was Presiding Judge of the Schuyler County Court for twelve years.

Mr. Poe was a member of the Downing I.O.O.F Lodge No. 267 and Ariel Rebekah Lodge No. 752. He attended the Downing United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at two o'clock Monday afternoon, November 4, 1985. The Rev. Bruce Jeffries, pastor of the church, will conduct the services. Music will be provided by Rev. Bruce Jeffries, singing, "Amazing Grace." He will be accompanied by Willa May Gooden, organist. Burial will be in the Downing cemetery. The body is at the Norman Funeral Home in Downing where I.O.O.F services will be held at seven o'clock this evening, Sunday, November 3, 1985. Bearers will be Garry Poe, Bruce Poe, Garen Poe,William Pitts, Ronald Rouse and Michael England.
