Velma Lucille Combs was born the daughter of William Zenta Janes and Hattie Mae Davis Janes on August 7, 1924 in Thayer, Missouri and departed this life August 2, 2009 in West Plains, Missouri at the age of 84 years.

She was united in marriage February 9, 1940 at Salem Arkansas to Fred Combs, who preceded her in death February 11, 1998.

She is survived by five children, Kathy Clark and Husband, Dennis of Myrtle, Missouri. Linda Whittenburg and husband Hubert, Jr. of West Plains, Missouri, Eddie Combs and wife, Tammy of Myrtle, Missouri, Sandy Honeycutt and husband, Ron Of Myrtle, Missouri and Jed Combs of Myrtle, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn Janes of Cherokeee Village, Arkansas and William Lenard Janes of Thayer, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three daughters, Wanda Rogers, Sue Strain and Roselee Combs; one son -in-law, Burnell Rogers, five brothers, Herbert, Lawrence, Harold, Cleo and Otis Janes and two sisters, Ambie Roy and Annabelle McKee.

Velma was a dedicated homemaker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening, sewing and most of all embroidery work. Mrs. Combs was a member of the Cotton Creek Free Will Baptist Church and later attended the Thayer Assembly of God Church

She will truly be missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
