Robert B. DeGroft, of Hanover, died January 20, 2010.

Born April 1, 1928, in Littlestown, he was the son of the late Walter & W. LaRuthe "Lucy" (Bemiller) DeGroft.

He graduated from Littlestown High School in 1946.

Mr. DeGroft served in the Army at the end of WWII and played percussion in the Army band, traveling to Japan.

After serving his country, he returned home and graduated from Gettysburg College in 1951 with degrees in German and Math. He also attended one year at Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary.

Bob worked for Doubleday Publishing Company and retired after 35 years of service in 1987.

Bob, over the years, was an active church member. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church (York Street) of Hanover. He was a member of church choirs for 69 years. Few people have devoted more time to bowling as a competitor, organizer, official and ambassador, than Bob, who had been active in the sport for more than 60 years. He served as past President of PSBA and was also voted into the PSBA Hall of Fame. In addition, he served as past President of the YCBA and was voted into the YCBA Hall of Fame. Currently Bob was serving on the Board of Directors for the York/Adams Bowling Association.

He was the husband of Jean E. (Yealy) DeGroft for 58 years and surviving, in addition to her, are a son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Christine DeGroft of Spring Grove; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristina and Joseph Suter of Ellicott City, Md.; three grandchildren, Jason Flynn and wife, Breanna, Shawn Suter and Erica Suter; and a great-grandson, Devyn Flynn.

Interment was in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown.
