Doris Griffin Cayton, 91, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at Britthaven of Madison.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Ellisboro Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Cayton was born May 27, 1918, in Patrick County, VA, to the late John Akers Griffin and Ida Bell Rogers Griffin. Doris began her working career in 1945 as a cook for Intelligence School, which later became Rockingham Nursing Home and even later Britthaven of Madison. She retired at age 72 with over 40 years of service in the same building. Her service on earth ended where it began. We know that God has bigger plans for a truly virtuous woman. Mrs. Cayton was a member of Ellisboro Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Kermit Cayton; sons, Wade and Charles Cayton; brother, Akers Griffin; sisters, Vera Harrison, Lois Coleman and Gladys White and son-in-law, M.W. "Buster" Tucker.

Survivors include her daughter, Delores C. Tucker; grandchildren, Cheryl Essex (Lew), Marty Woods (Lane), Laurie Seeney (Larry), Todd Tucker (Julie), Kim Patton, Scott Cayton, Danielle Cayton and Wade Cayton, Jr.; great- grandchildren, Stephanie Wray (John), Tiffanie Priddy (Scott), Dana Eaker (A.J.), Austin Tucker, Raven Tucker, Olivia Tucker and Dylan Patton and great-great- grandchildren, Emma and Sam Wray.
