Mary John Middleton, daughter of the late Orville Fairchild and Hattie Pry Fairchild, was born on July 11, 1928, at Dexter and died in the Crowley Ridge Center in Dexter on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at the age of 81.
She grew up in Dexter and was a Navy wife during the late 1940s and 1950s. She was a past president of the Norfolk Navy Wives Club and a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association. She returned to Dexter prior to working as an LPN in Poplar Bluff during the mid 1960s through the 1980s. Her hobby was human interest photography of people at work in Dexter. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dexter for 70 years.

She was married to James Marvin Middleton from Dexter (Pyletown). He preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 1987.

Surviving are two sons, James Marvin Middleton Jr., and Roy Middleton; two grandchildren, David and Amy Middleton; one brother, Tom Fairchild; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Buel Fairchild; four sisters, Genevive Middleton, Avanell Baldwin, Anna Mae Henderson and Pauline Gale Oliver.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter.

Graveside services will follow the visitation at the Smith-Stevenson Cemetery near Dexter with Rev. Louis Lowe officiating.
