CATHERINE MEALY ZUENDEL
10-19-1845 -- 12-6-1913

Catherine, wife of Christopher Zuendel, was born at the old homestead near Wolf's Corners, or Johnlowen, Clarion Co., Oct. 19th, 1845, and died at the home of her daughter at Irwin, Pa., Saturday, Dec. 6th, 1913.

She was a daughter of John and Catherine Knisely Mealy, pioneer settlers in Clarion county. She was united in marriage with Mr. Zuendel, Sept. 10th, 1868, shortly after his discharge from the civil war, by reason of wounds which disabled him from further service, and not long after their marriage they settled upon a farm near the mouth of Ross Run, Kingsley twp., where they continued to reside until last spring when they sold the farm and moved to German Hill, near Starr post office.

On Thursday last, Mrs. Zuendel went to visit her daughter, Mrs. Samuel Davis, at Irwin, reaching there Friday. The following day about the noon hour, while conversing with her daughter, she was seized with an acute attack of heart failure and while passing from one room to another was seen to reel as though in the act of falling. She was quickly supported by her son-in-law, who led her to a couch where she almost instantly expired without uttering a word. A physician was quickly summoned, but the spark of life had fled.

The remains were brought here Monday and conveyed to her home, and on Tuesday funeral services in her memory were held at the Zuendel church, German Hill, where the interment was made. Rev. M. E. Wolcott of the Tionesta F. M. church, conducted the service, being assisted by Rev. T. B. Hauvermale of the Lickingville Evangelical church.

Mrs. Zuendel was one of the best of women, patient, loving and kind to all about her, and above all a devout Christian. Early in life, she was converted to the Lord and for more than thirty years she had been a consistent member of the Free Methodist church. As a neighbor, friend and helper in every time of need, she was always to be depended upon, and she was held in loving esteem by all who knew her.

She was the mother of ten children, six of whom, with the stricken husband, are left to mourn their great loss, as follows: Mrs. Boyd F. Winans of Cambridge Springs; Mrs. Benjamin J. Weller of Starr; Miss Christina at home; Forest Mead Zuendel of Meadville; Mrs. Samuel Davis of Irwin; and Mrs. David F. Carrier of Herminie, Pa. One sister; Mrs. Samuel Whitton of Newmansville; and the following brothers also survive; John K. Mealy, Clarendon; Moses, Aaron and Joseph Mealy; residing in Clarion Co., the latter on the old homestead, and Elijah Mealy, located in Oklahoma. The deceased is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Inaccuracies, Typos, etc.:
Christopher Zuendel & Catherine Mealy were married, Sept. 10, 1863 not 1868.
