Ella married William Marion Wilbanks in 1899. When she was 20 years old and William was 47 years old. The had seven children. William died in 1918, in 1919, Ella could no longer feed or take care of the children. So, on September 3, 1919 she placed the 5 younger children in Thornwell Orphanage in Clinton , South Carolina.
