Margaret and her family immigrated from Scotland to Philadelphia in 1772. They would make their way to Pennsylvania where she would marry and raise her child in Allegheny County.
Margaret married Samuel Barber(1756-1834) in Allegheny County, Pa. They settled in Turtle Creek where they adopted a daughter Jane Koots Barber(1794-1877). Samuel and Margaret would also adopt her nephew son of her brother William Brown and Mary McCamish Brown, George Brown(1801-1842). Jane Koots Barber would later marry George Brown.
Margaret died in Turtle Creek and is laid to rest with her husband Samuel in Beulah Presbyterian Churchyard, Churchill Borough, Wilkins Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania
