DEATH OF ARTHUR CLARY.
He Passed Away at 12:15 p.m. - Something About His Life.
Arthur W. Clary, who has been sick of typhoid fever for the past three weeks, died at 12:15 o’clock p.m., today at his parents’ home. He was born at Charlston, July 16, 1877, and at the time of his death was 18 years old.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Clary, 562 West Main street, who have two other children, John and Mary, who survive Arthur.
No death has occurred in Decatur that has caused as much sorrow outside ot the immediate family as the death of Arthur W. Clary. He was an exemplary young man and endeared himself to all who knew him by his pleasant demeanor and his high christian character. Had he lived he would have entered his third year in the high school the coming school year. He had splendid natural abiltiy and mastered his studies with great precision and ease, and was a leader in his class. In fact he was one of those young people who enjoyed the full confidence of all his associates.
He joined the Intermediate Christian Endeavor Society of the M.E. church, and the church also two or three years ago and at once became one of the most active workers among the Endeavorers and was twice elected president of the society, his last term expiring only a few weeks ago. He was very highly esteemed in that society for his high moral worth and beautiful christian character which was mirrored in his every day life. One of the Endeavorers to-day, since his death said “Nothing too good can be said of Arthur Clary.” So deeply was the society interested in the life of the sick young man that last night when it was in session they all prayed silently for his recovery. It had been reported that he was better and all hoped for his recovery. His health failed him before school closed and it was with difficulty that he remained with his class through the session. He got some better but was far from well when he was taken down with the disease which resulted in his death.
The fuineral will be held Wednesday afternoon, but the hour has not yet been decided upon.
