Mary Jane Nigh was the daughter of Isaac and Mary Ann Phillips Nigh. she married Enoch Gleason, 9 May 1875, Allen County, Kansas. Her parents married in Shelby County, Illinois and didn't leave Illinois for Kansas until after the Civil War.

Her father's obituary:

ANOTHER PIONEER IS GONE

Isaac Nigh, Allen County's Only Survivor of the War With Mexico, Died Yesterday.

Isaac Nigh, eighty seven years old, father of Frank Nigh of this city, died about noon yesterday at his home in Humboldt. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at ten o-clock at the residence.

Isaac Nigh was born in Fairfield County, Ohio December 2, 1829. At the age of eighteen he enlisted in the 15th Regiment, united States Regulars, in the War with Mexico. His father was a member of the same regiment. They were in Mexico about a year and a half, and marched from Vera Cruz to the City of Mexico, where his father died of yellow fever, Isaac was sick at the same time but recovered. After his return from Mexico to Ohio he worked on a farm. At the age of twenty four he was married to Miss Ann Phillips on September 29, 1853. They celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary in September this year.

They have two children living, Mrs. Mary J. Gleason who lost her husband within the past year, and Mr. Frank Nigh, of Iola. Another son, Samuel Nigh, died at Chanute, Kas., about twenty-two years ago. There are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

When the Civil War broke out Mr. Nigh again enlisted his country's service, in Company G., 115th Illinois Volunteers, serving until the end of the war. He came to Kansas more than forty years ago and settled on a farm about five miles south of Humboldt who he still owns. About ten years ago he bought a home in Humboldt and has lived there since.

Until about four weeks ago Mr. Nigh was able to be about. Then a sudden and severe pain attacked him just behind his eyes. When it passed a few hours later he was totally blind. Since then his condition has been serious and the family knew that his death has been but a matter of time.

B. F. Nigh of Chanute is his only brother who survives him.
