Allene Eubanks, age 85, a longtime resident of Hobart passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2010.
She was born on October 5, 1924 in Birta, AK, the daughter of Thomas and Ruby Via.
Allene was married to Charles L. Eubanks on November 23, 1941 in Centerville, AK and he preceded her in death on August 26 1996.
Allene worked as the Chef for the Midwest Steel Supervisors Club and retired after 20 years of service. Allene was an active member of First Church for over 40 years. She was an avid quilter, who also loved to sew and knit. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a friend to all.
Allene is survived by her loving family; daughters Linda (Frederick) LaLonde, Hobart, and Peggy (George) Randall, Valparaiso, grandchildren Jeffrey (Susan) Dallas, Hobart and Christie (Jeffrey) Sable, Portage, great-grandchildren; Melanee Dallas, Amanda Sable, Justin Dallas, and Jennifer Sable, sisters Velma Eldridge, Ola, AK, Betty Sullivan, Ola, AK, Kathleen Freeman, Ola, AK, Lilly (Buddy) Hance, Casa, AK, and Patsy (Don) VanFleet, Danville, AK, sister-in-law Sylvia (Doyle) Dornan, Dallas, TX, numerous nieces and nephews, and other loving family and dear friends.
Allene was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Charles Eubanks, brothers Thedford Via, Donald Via, Norbin Via, and Bobby Via.
A visitation for Allene Eubanks will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, January 25, 2010 at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 400 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 directly at First Church, 939 South Wisconsin Street, Hobart, with Pastor John F. Barley and Pastor Johnathan Barley, officiating. Burial will be at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Memorials in Allene's memory may be made to the First Church or to the V.N.A. Hospice.
