On 18 Sep 1897, he married Julia Gurene Nelson in Kendall County and together they had 7 children: Silas Theodore (1898-1963), Anna Helena (1900-1960), Ervin Newton (1901-1967), Henry Ananais (1904-1978), Hattie Carolyn (1911-1995), Hazel Malinda (1914-1942), and Joseph Severine (1915-1916).
A resident of Lisbon, Severt fell ill for 2 weeks and subsequently died of cancer in Sandwich Hospital on 3 Jan 1933. At the time of his death, he was survived by his widow Julia and six children; Silas of Elmwood; Mrs. Anna (Barney)Enger of Seward, Ervin of Troy; Henry of Caton Farm; Hattie and Hazel at home. Four grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lars of Chicago & Thor of Sandwich, also survived him.
Funeral services were held at the Helmar Lutheran Church, the rev. Nils Klungtvedt officiated. He was buried in Plattville Lutheran Cemetery in Kendall County, IL.
