Oscar J Merle
Funeral services for Oscar J. Merle, 59, who died at his home on the Portageville Road, Friday, June first, were held at the United Community Church last Monday afternoon, Rev. Henry W. Stevens officiating.
Mr. Merle was born in Attica on February 11, 1875 and his early life was spent in that vicinity. He was married to Grace Gowan of Rockburn, Quebec, at Wyoming in October, 1910.
Mr. Merle and family came to Castile three years ago when he purchased the Charles Bevier farm on the Portageville Road.
He is survived by his wife, four daughter, Berwyn, Marilyn, Catherine and Esther, three brothers, Rev. H. P. Merle of Utica, Dr. J. C. Merle of Detroit and Arthur F. Merle of Attica, and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Petillion and Mrs. C. G. McClelland, both of Buffalo. Burial was in the Dutch Flats Cemetery, Orangeville.
