Mr. Merle came to America with his parents in 1842 who settled in Attica but he remained in New York City with friends until he was 18 years of age and then joined his parents in Attica but soon after his parents removed to Illinois. On Nov. 22, 1857 he married Miss Elizabeth L. Meeder of Orangeville, NY.
Survived by his wife; 6 children, Rev. H.P. Merle of Buffalo, Dr. J.C. Merle of Detroit, Michigan, Oscar J. and Arthur E. Merle of Attica, Mrs. Charles Petilon of Buffalo and Mrs. Charles MacLelland of Buffalo and 1 brother, George Merle of Attica.
