MANHATTAN --- Andrew Phillip "Doc" Gray, 85, Manhattan, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at a Manhattan senior community.

Dr. Gray was a veterinarian and practiced in Green County, Ind., from 1953 to 1961. He later joined the faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University from 1966 to 1986, where he worked in the diagnostic laboratory and taught pathology. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, during which he served in the European Theater and earned a Good Conduct Medal.

He was born July 20, 1916, at Bonner Springs, the son of Guy and Annie Watson Gray. He earned a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University and a doctor of veterinary medicine degree in 1953. He later earned a master's degree in 1963 and a doctorate in pathology in 1966, both from Kansas State University.

Dr. Gray was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Sigma Xi and Gamma Sigma Delta.

He married Carolyn Sparks on April 18, 1954, at Worthington, Ind. She died Dec. 16, 1966.

Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Gray; a sister, Tressa Roller, Platte City, Mo.; two brothers, Gail Gray, Oskaloosa, and Thomas Gray, Bonner Springs; three grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Yorgensen-Meloan- Londeen Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Kansas State University Foundation for the Center for Basic Cancer Research, which may be sent in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, 66502.
