WM. HENRY ABELBECK
William Henry Abelbeck, son of the late William Abelbeck and his wife Sophia (nee) Hoops, was born July 23, 1866, in Waltendingen, Germany. He came to the United States in 1882 and lived in Nemaha County, Nebr., until moving to the Byron community in 1895. On October 25, 1895, he married Emma (nee) Rears (sic) and this union was blessed by the birth of six children. He was a former member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Byron; and at the time of his death, had been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Byron for more than 20 years.
The departed had been in failing health for several years and spent the last 20 months of this life in Reed Hospital at Deshler. At 4:07 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 1962, William Abelbeck passed from this life to the Church Triumphant. He reached the age of 95 years, 11 months and 5 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Abelbeck; his wife, Emma; one son, Albert, who died in infancy; one daughter, Mrs. Herman Rohrs (Rose); and a sister and a brother who died in Germany.
He is survived by: three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Davidson and Mrs. William Kock (sic) of Deshler, and Mrs. Albert Kettelhut of Hardy; one son, Amel Abelbeck of Superior; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Luhrs of Byron; one brother, Dick Abelbeck of Byron; four sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law.
Funeral services were conducted July 1 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Byron. The Rev. John E. Sitler officiating. His sermon was based on Matthew 25:23. The organist was Mrs. W.G. Reinke. The congregation sang "Rock of Ages" and "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say." A girls quartet, Karen Harms, Marla Jean Hoops, Sandra Kroeger and Carolyn Mohrmann, sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Interment was made in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Davidson, Dwight Abelbeck, Dwight Reinke, Donald Nelson, Clarence Kettelhut and Leonard Elting.
