The death last Sunday evening, Dec. 19, of John W. Bowman came as a  shock to the community.  He had been sick for about a week and his condition seemed critical but the end did not seem so near. His illness started with a severe cold in the head and later developed into pneumonia.  All that loving hands could do, was done to save his life, but the Supreme Commander had ordered otherwise and he passed peacefully to answer the summons. The deceased was respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him, was a kind, considerate husband and father and a straight forward, honest man. The community has lost a very able citizen and will feel its loss severely.  The Booster joins in expressing sympathy to the bereaved family. John W. Bowman was born at LaSalle, Ill., July 24, 1849.  At the age of twelve years he moved to Flannigan, Ill., where in 1874 he was united in marriage to Antje Block.  To this union was born five children, four of whom are still living.  She died in 1884.  In 1886 he was again married to Tetje Ennen who died here in 1892.  Four daughters resulted from this union.  In 1892 he was united in marriage to Miss Antje Block, his  present widow.  To this union six children were born.  The deceased moved to Thayer County close to Bruning in 1890, where he has resided with his family on the farm until the time of his death.  He leaves to mourn his loss, the widow, fourteen children, a sister residing at Sentinel Butte, N.D., and a step-brother, F.W. Bowman of this city. Funeral services were from the Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday Dec. 23 Rev. C. Bartels delivered a very touching consoling sermon.  The deceased had been an active member of the Lutheran Church all his life. Interment was made in the church cemetery.  Many beautiful floral pieces surrounded the casket which illustrated the high esteem in which he was held.
