Frances Day, actually Frances Victoria Schenck, American born actress who enjoyed her greatest popularity in England, in the 1930s. Indeed, she died in England decades later. As a young boy, about eleven, I met her in Hampton Wick, in the company of Jayne Mansfield. Both ladies gave me their autographs and I hope that I still have them. Francis Day had sparkling eyes and a ready smile. Jayne Mansfield was an attractive young woman, and, as I remember it, cradling a baby in her arms. Jayne was completely different to her on-screen persona. Francis Day started out, in the USA, as a singer in clubs, later progressing to the London, West-End stage. She was stated to be very sexy and curvaceous, but I don't remember this. She would have been about fifty when I met her.
