Juanita was born on May 1, 1922 to John and Mattie Shay. She married Donald J. McLain on December 4, 1943 in Kansas. After Donald's military service, they moved to Des Moines where they raised their six children. During her retirement years, she lived in Davis City, IA for nine years where she was a member of the Trinity Christian Church. Juanita participated in the American Legion, Eastern Star, White Shrine and Social Order of the Beauceant organizations. Juanita gave of herself in many ways, but it was the family gatherings with her children and grandchildren that gave Juanita the most joy.
She will be missed by her children, Sherry Wilborn of Indianola, Phillip (Karen) McLain of Cedar, MN, Gary (Laurie) McLain of Altoona, Phyllis (John) James of Huntley, IL, Karl (Sherri) McLain of Des Moines and Jeff (Phyllis) McLain of St. Marys; ten grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband of 50 years, Donald; brothers, Richard Shay, Gene Shay, and John Shay, Jr.; and sister, Wanda Pope.
