Major League Baseball Player. For seven seasons (1951 to 1957), he was a left-handed pitcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Sox. Born Paul Edmore LaPalme, he served in the United States Army overseas in Europe during World War II, before making his Major League debut with the Pirates on May 28, 1951. The knuckleballer enjoyed his most successful season as a reliever in 1955 while with the Cardinals, when he recorded four victories, with a 2.75 ERA in 56 games. He finished in third place behind Clem Labine and Hoyt Wilhelm for most appearances in the National League that season. In 253 career games, he compiled a 24 win 45 loss record with a 4.42 lifetime ERA in 616 innings pitched. Following his baseball career, he was the proprietor of an engraving business.
