John Lyman McLain, youngest child of Adam and Cynthia Jane (Woods) McLain, was born March 22, 1888 in Decatur County near Davis City and entered into rest January 16, 1949 at his home in Davis City, after an illness of two years.
At the age of five years he moved with his parents to Plymouth County IA where he grew to manhood.
In 1909, he was married to Stella Thoms of LeMars, IA and to this union three children were born: James Homer, Davis City; Maurice (Buzz], Ontario, CA; and Leah (Mrs. R. W. Graham].
He moved back to Davis City in 1910 where he spent the remainder of his life. He operated a grocery store before entering the produce business in 1929.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
He is survived by his wife and three children, one granddaughter, one step granddaughter, two sisters, Mrs. Estell Hasbrooke, of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Bertha Rupert of Souix City, Iowa, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for J. Lyman McLain were held from the Saints Church in Davis City, Iowa, Tuesday, January 18, 1949, at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Bernard R. Westman officiated. Singers were Mrs. Zula Downey, Mrs. Vivian Burrell, Mr. John Tharp and Mr. Frank Kendall. Accompanist was Mrs. Mabel Tharp. Interment was at LeMars, Iowa.
