Mrs. Rebecca Peoples, whose maiden name was Bachman, was born in Sullivan county, Tenn., Jan. 10th, 1807; died at the home of her son-in-law John Gillaspy in Shelby county, Mo., Feb. 10th, 1897, at the advanced age of ninety years. She was married to John Peoples Sept. 11, 1827. Of this union there were born 13 children, 9 sons and 4 daughters, 7 of whom, 5 sons and 2 daughters, survive her. John Peoples, the husband, died Oct. 21, 1854. She moved with her husband to Marion county, Mo., in 1837 and in 1839 to Shelby county, where she resided till her death.
Sister Peoples united with the Christian church in 1847, and lived a consistent christian life, exemplifying the profession which she made. Her life is reflected in the exemplary lives of the living sons and daughters, who are respected and beloved by all who know them. The dear old mother in her declining years and helplessness was never forgotten by these loving children. Their joy was heightened in ministering to the wants of the mother.
Sister Peoples was a true mother as shown in the lives and characters of the children whom she gave to the world. The descendants of sister Peoples are, children 13, grandchildren thirty-seven, great grandchildren twenty-eight. The community has been called to give up one held in the highest esteem, and in our sorrow for the loss in this life of a dear sister, a kind friend and neighbor, a true and noble woman, we extend to the relatives our heartfelt sympathy.
Funeral services at Christian church in Leonard conducted by the writer. Text, "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life"--Rev. 2:10, after which the body was laid to rest in the family burying ground. E. M. Crow.
