Ora Delbert [Dell] McLain, youngest son of Henry and Eady McLain, was born February 3, 1878, on a farm south of Davis City, in New Buda township, where he lived for 70 years and was engaged in farming before moving to Leon March 1944 after retiring.
He departed this life December 26, 1954 at the Decatur County hospital at Leon, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 10 months 23 days.
He was united in marriage to Rose Bartlett on February 9, 1895. To this union seven children were born, three girls, Iva Johnston, Lucas, Iowa; Lula Shields, Mt. Ayr; and Pearl Horney, Melbourne, Iowa and four boys, John, Osceola, Jim, Davis City, Delbert, LaMoille, Iowa and Orion who preceded him in death 1950. Also his parents, one brother, Ira and sister, Nora. He leaves to mourn his wife and six children, eighteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
He was a long time member of the Odd Fellow Lodge and attended until his failing health. He was a devoted and loving husband and father and was well liked by everyone who knew him.
Services were held from the Stewart Funeral Home, Leon, Iowa December 29, 1954 at 2 o'clock p.m. conducted by Geo. H. Lamb, Pastor of the Assembly of God Church. Singers, Mrs. Eva Lamb, Mrs. George Hawkins. Interment being made in the Leon cemetery.
