Funeral services for Ewing F. Mardis, 63, were held Thursday, September 27 at 2 p.m. from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. D. L. Druien and Rev. T. S. Curry in charge of the services. Burial was in the Colvin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Towler Parrott, Griffin Chewning, James Smith, Obie Rafferty, Will Warner, and Charlie Wingler. Mr. Mardis, son of Robert Mardis and the late Lucy Miskell Mardis, was born August 13, 1888 in Taylor County. He died September 25 at 12:30 p.m. at the Rosary Hospital. He professed faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He united in marriage to Miss Permelia Colvin 35 years ago. She preceded him in death in 1948. To this union four sons and two daughters were born. Surviving are Burr Mardis, Mrs. Claude Roby of Taylor County, and Harry Mardis of Louisville. Besides father and children, he is survived by seven brothers and two sisters, Miss Iva Mardis, Mrs. Clifford Hay, Lee Mardis, Malcolm Mardis, Owen Mardis, Lonnie Mardis, of Taylor County; Walter Mardis of Fountain Town, Indiana; Bernard Mardis of Colfax, Illinois; Holice Mardis of Arrow Smith, Illinois. He is also survived by four grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
