Elda Curtis Adams, 91, died Aug. 19 at Blue Mountain Nursing Home in Prairie City.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at First Christian Church, with a gathering and meal to follow the service.
She was born Jan. 12, 1912, in Tulsa, Okla., to Robert and Margaret Stewart. She had four brothers and one sister. She grew up in Huntington and graduated from Baker High School.
In 1934, she married Earnest "Slim" Curtis. They had two sons and lived most of the 42 years of their married life in Canyon City. She worked as Grant Count Deputy Treasurer. She and Slim carried the mail on the Star Route from John Day to Baker City and then on the route from John Day to Kimberly. Mr. Curtis died in 1978.
In 1982, she married Millard Adams and they lived in Prineville until he died in 1992. Mrs. Adams moved back to John Day in 1995.
She was a 55-year member of the Rebekah Lodge in Canyon City. She also volunteered at the Methodist Thrift Shop, the John Day and Prairie City senior centers and as dispatcher for the People Mover. She loved to dance, read, and play cards.
Mrs. Adams is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Clayton and Beverly Curtis of Prairie City; and Rick and Elizabeth Curtis of Milton-Freewater; two grandsons; one granddaughter; five great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Grant County, P.O. Box 730, Prairie City, OR 97869.
Autumn Funerals of Redmond was in charge of arrangements.
