J P Pack was born Oct 16, 1846 in Monroe County, West Virginia, and entered the better life April 5, 1924.
In [illegible] when he was [illegible] years old he moved with his family to Raleigh County, West Virginia, where he grew to manhood.
He was thrice married: first to Maria Scott in 1868; and after her death he was married to Susan Klohpenstein on 1888; who also passed away. He was last married to Lizzie Pratz.
To the first union there were born five children, three of whom preceded him to the eternal home.
In 1872 he migrated west, locating as a pioneer in McPherson County, Kansas, where he homesteaded land. In 1901 he moved to Oklahoma, living there until 1912, when he came to Canon City, which has since been his home.
Mr Pack accepted Christ as his savior at the age of twenty years; and from that time forward, he lived a consistent faithful Christian life. He was an elder in the church at the time of his death, which office he had held for many years.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, and two daughters, Mrs W E Zody of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; and Mrs J T Rhodes of Canon City, both of whom were with him at the time of his death; two brothers, J H Pack of Nampha, Idaho, and J D Pack of Arkansas City, Kansas; three sisters, Mrs Belle Phipps of Hunter, Oklahoma, Mrs W H Brown, and Mrs J R Smith of Daniels, West Virginia. There are also eleven grandchildren.
It would be hard to find a man who was a better judge of human nature, who had a keener sense of justice, or higher ideals of a Christian life, than J P Pack. He commanded the respect and absolute confidence of all who knew him. To understand him was to know him.
Funeral services were conducted in Canon City, Colo, and Galva, Kansas, Rev Lawrence Ashley of the McPherson, Christian church, having charge of the service at Galva. Burial was in Empire Cemetery.
