"Alturas resident Fern Ash Doss, 77, died at Moroc medical Center, Alturas on March 15, 1995.
She was born Fern Ash in Ft. Bidwell on October 4, 1917, was reared in ft. Bidwell and graduated from Surprise valley High School. She met her husband Gordon L. Doss, while the two were in junior high school togeather. He vowed he would someday marry Fern and years later, the two were married in Reno, Nev. on June 7, 1936.
In 1941 the Doss' lived in Eagleville and operated a U.S. mail and freight business for which Mr. doss was the driver. From 1942 - 1944, while her husband served his country during the war, Mrs. doss continued to operate the mail and freight business.
In 1946, Mr. Doss won a four-year contract to haul mail from ft. Bidwell and way points to Nubeiber and back, and sold the freight hauling business.
In April 1981, they chose to slow down. Mrs. doss was a homemaker and served as a 4-H Club sewing leader for 25 years. She was a member of the Ft. Bidwell Civic Club and enjoyed working in her yard and kept a garden.
She is survived by her husband Gordon Doss of Alturas; sisters Louise Loughridge of Canby and Jane Stevens of Alturas; and numerous nieces and nephews."
