Ruby was born in 1913 in Montgomery County, Iowa to Asa B. Bowen and Hattie Bernice Stoddard. Her paternal grandparents were Hiram J. Bowen and Susan Squires, and her maternal grandparents were Lyman B. Stoddard and Rhoda M. Douglass.

Ruby lived near Red Oak, Iowa until she was about 10 years old, around 1923. At that time she moved to Nebraska, living near Seward. In the 1930 census she is living with her parents and siblings in Butler County, Nebraska -- just north of Seward.

In 1931, Ruby was 18 years old -- her home life was not the best, as her mother left the family and a very short marriage didn't work out in Nebraska. Her uncle Clifton Stoddard was visiting his mother Rhoda and other relatives in Nebraska, and asked Ruby if she would like to come to his home state of Florida to visit for awhile. She made the trip, but ended up not returning for awhile.

In Florida, she married Berge Saunders in 1933, and lives intermittently between Miami and Key West over the next several years, and in the 1940s she divorced Berge and later in the decade marries Daniel McParland (who is interred next to her in Tavares Cemetery).

Daniel was in the military and the family moved around quite a bit, but eventually they settled down in south Florida and later in Lake County, Florida.

Ruby had three daughters and five grandchildren. Today (2012) she has 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Her first great-great grandchild was born the year that she passed away (2002).

Ruby was a sweet woman, and is sorely missed today.
