Sullivan County Democrat Microfilm at Callicoon Library in an issue dated February 2 1940
Caroline, wife of Bruno F Jahn died at her home at Fosterdale at noon last Wednesday, Jan 31 from a heart stroke. At about 12:00 she went to the Mrozch corner to get mail from the mail box and stopped to visit with Mrs Mrozek for a little while. She was feeling well when she started from home, a few hundred feet distant, but on the way she felt herself getting ill. Getting inside she complained to her husband who assisted her to the sofa, when she died in his arms.
The funeral was held Friday at 2 o'clock from the house with service in the Fosterdale Methodist church by Pastor Venable and interment in the family plot there.
Mrs Jahn was born on the John McNeeley farm in Fosterdale June 28 1868, one of six children of Robert Cochran and Elizabeth Townsend, native of Irelend. Carrie was first married to John Nearing of Lake Huntington, and after his death she married Mr Jahn,, a native of Germany, who came from Brooklyn to Fosterdale and bought the Dr ?? place, where his first wife died. They were married Feb 2 1916 at the Kenoza Lake parsonage by Reb Geroge O Read, and they since lived in the home which he built on 17 acres of the Hagy tract after he sold his old house and much of the land to the Levines.
Mrs Jahn was active in the Fosterdale Methodist church. She was the last of the Cochran family.
