Jean Guidry was born and educated in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. She attended business-college in Leeds and was awarded the Royal Society of Arts in all subjects. In the mid-1950's she began working in the secretarial and administrative fields in corporate, legal, and nonprofit firms. Later, she worked in both England and the United States in newspaper publishing as a copy taker, news editor, classified advertising and public relations. She relocated from England to Washington, D.C. in 1967, where she met Marvin "Mark" Guidry. They were married in 1969 in Reno, Nevada, and resided in Medford and Portland, Oregon; in Springfield, Virginia; and in Naperville since the late 1980's. She retired after moving to Illinois, and she and Mark turned their long-time antiquing hobby into a livelihood when they opened the Wheaton Antique Mall, and sold antiques in other local venues as well.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Turton; her mother, Enda Lister Turton Bissett; and her beloved husband, Mark Guidry; who died in 1999.

Upon her marriage to Mark, Jean became stepmother to Mark's children, who also survive her: Cheryl Guidry Tyiska of Maryland, Cynthia Guidry Herdt of Washington, Allison Guidry Hardee of Virginia and Michael Guidry of Hawaii. Jean leaves five grandchildren, Maria Tyiska, Philip and Tom Pridemore, Rachel and Lindsey Hardee; and five great-grandchildren, Trey, Mady, Cheyenne, Dylan, and Taylor. Her sisters-in-law, Marie Rabel and Bertha Parfait; and her step-sister, Marie Kendall in England, along with their families, also mourn her death. Jean had very dear friends and many wonderful neighbors who meant a great deal to her. Jean will be remembered by family and friends for her generosity and kindness, along with her love of yard sales and gardening.

Family and friends will hold a private service in her memory, and she will be buried in Winnie, Texas, adjacent to her husband, Mark.
