John H. Chapman was born August 6, 1875 in Upperville, Virginia. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia, Class of 1898, and General Theological Seminary in New York, Class of 1901.

He was rector of St. Paul's Protestant Espiscopal Church at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and retired in 1925 after several years of service.

Before his service in Philadelphia, he had asssited at St. John's Church in Stamford and officated at Choate Rosemary Hall School in Greenwich.

He married Rosamond Low on June 1, 1905 in Brooklyn. They had two sons, Eustace Blackwell Chapman Robert Low Chapman.

John passed away on Thursday, January 18, 1962 at Greenwich Hospital of natural causes. He resided on Konittekock Road in Greenwich at the time of his death.

A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, January 20, 1962 at 2:30 p.m. in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church located at 351 Main Street in Ridgefield.
John was laid to rest following the conclusion of the Funeral Services at Scott's Cemetery in Titicus.
