Mrs. Verda Ethel Slater, 59, long-time Medford resident, died Friday at an Enid hospital. She was born at Williamstown, Mo., January 26, 1885, a daughter of the late John and Isophena Shoptaugh Vandruff. She came to the Medford community with her parents at the opening of the Cherokee Strip for settlement.

Mrs. Slater succumbed following an illness of only a few hours. She suffered a stroke at her home Friday morning.

Her husband, Orville M. Slater, operator of a Medford harness and shoe repair shop, and a son, Edward J. Slater, stationed with the Navy at Clinton, Okla., are among her survivors.
