Mrs. Ida Bell Killian, a resident of this area since she was a young woman, died in Collingsworth General Hospital Monday, Dec. 12, at the age of 88. Her husband was the late J.A. Killian, prominent farmer southeast of Wellington for many years. Mrs. Killian was a resident of Thomas Nursing Center. Mrs. Killian was the former Ida Bell Crawley, daughter of George and Lucinda Crawley. She was born in Gravley, Ark., January 13, 1888. The family moved to the Mt. Pleasant area in East Texas while she was a girl, and then to Tulia.
Mrs. Crawley died there, and Mr. Crawley brought his children to their farm northwest of Loco in 1908. Mr. and Mrs. Killian were married there December 30, 1912, and continued to live in the north part of Chlldress County for 11 years. In 1923, they moved to a farm near Wellington, but later bought the place in Fresno Community with which they were to be identified for so many years. Mr. Killian was a farm leader, as well as a leader in the community. His wife joined him in supporting and working in these efforts. They were active in Fresno Methodist Church, and she taught a Sunday School class a number of years. She remained for many years active in the women's groups which were forerunners of United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Killian worked with her husband for strong schools in their community. She had been a Methodist since early in life.
Surviving Mrs. Killian are one son, J.B. Killian, four grandchildren, Dr. Granville Killian of Hollis, Mrs. J.C. Saunders of Follett, Gary Killian and Mark Killian; two sisters. Mrs. Vera Gunstream of Memphis and Mrs. Harold Magatagan of Artesia, N.M.
There are 8 great grandchildren. Mr. Killian preceded her in death Sept. 29, 1972.
