BALLARD — Our earthly loss is Heaven's gain, for "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" (Psalm 116:15). On Wednesday morning, February 24, 2010, at 9:04 a.m., Lorraine Ingram Spencer went home to be with her Lord. Lorraine was born June 21, 1919, in Fayette County, W.Va., in a small coal mining town named Westerly. She was the oldest daughter of John "Randolph" Ingram and Virginia Mae Mosley Ingram. She grew up in the coal mining town of Kington, W.Va., and later married her husband, James "Howard" Spencer, Sr., on December 16, 1939.

During her life, she served not only as a pastor's wife, but also as the kindergarten teacher at the Ballard Christian School. A position she held for 29 years until 2006, when she was diagnosed with cancer. She was a faithful and active member in her home church of Ballard Baptist. Throughout the years she served as the Adult Ladies Sunday School class teacher, was a member of the church choir, and was a founding member of the Ballard Baptist Church Ladies Fellowship and Missions Circle groups.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Ellen Spencer, her husband, Rev. Howard Spencer Sr., her son-in-law, O.L. Faris II, three brothers, Lattelle Ingram, Raymond Ray Ingram, and James Randolph Ingram, Jr., and three sisters, Helen Jane Ingram Mendagrayl, Jacqueline "Jackie" Ingram Perry and Edith Ingram Painter. She leaves behind two younger siblings: Guy Franklin Ingram of Milwaukie, Ore., and Virginia "Jean" Ingram Reilmann of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a loving mother to 12 children, 11 of which she leaves behind including 9 sons and 2 daughters. She was the grandmother of 34 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She also leaves behind a large, close-knit church family and numerous longtime friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February, 27, 2010, at the Ballard Baptist Church, Ballard, with her sons, Rev. Joe Spencer, Rev. Dave Spencer, Rev. Dan Spencer and Evangelist Tim Spencer officiating. She will be laid to rest at the family's New Haven Cemetery in Ballard, located adjacent to the Ballard Christian School.

Friends may call on the family from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, February 26, 2010, at the Ballard Baptist Church, located on Adair Ridge Road, in Ballard, and an hour prior to the services.

In honor of her faithful service as kindergarten teacher at the Ballard Christian School, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made, in her memory, to the Ballard Christian School at HC 77, Box 106, Ballard, WV 24918.

Honorary pallbearer is her son-in-law, Louis Prunesti. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
